Episode 437: La Flor Dominicana 1994

Play

BACKGROUND: In early 2014, La Flor Dominicana announced the release of a cigar commemorating Litto and Ines Gomez’s 20 years in the cigar business. It would be called the La Flor Dominicana 1994.

LFD-1994-Barrelhouse

For many years, Litto set aside tobacco in anticipation of this very special blend to commemorate their 20th anniversary. The fillers and binder are grown on the La Flor Dominicana farm in the Dominican Republic and are complemented with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. This blend is as special as the occasion it serves to commemorate and is symbolic of the quality and pride with which La Flor Dominicana has built its name.

MSRP prices run from $7.50 to $8.30 per stick, depending on the size. The cigars come in 5 sizes and the cigar I’m featuring today is the 6-inch by 54 ring gauge 20th Anniversary Toro.

Heidbanger is our featured brew and it is a very special one, indeed: A fitting accompaniment to our special 20th anniversary cigar. And, along the way, I was able to get a few comments about the beer and about Barrelhouse Brewing from Lead Brewer Mathew Jacobs.

FEATURED LIBATION: Guatemala Acatenango – Finca San Diego Buena Vista and Guatemala Huehuetenango Finca Regalito
Guatemala is the 7th leading coffee-producing country of the world. Guatemalan Coffee has been divided geographically into 8 major coffee growing regions that produce unique flavor profiles. Probably the best know and most prestigious of those regions is Antigua, however there is great coffee that comes out of all the regions. Today, I am blending two of those regions together. Twenty-five percent of my blend for today’s coffee will come from Acatenango and 75% will come from Huehuetenango.

SPECIAL QUESTION: From Ian at Scorpion Cigar Reviews
Question: Does it matter that a drink alters your perception of cigar flavor? If you drink and smoke together as a normal routine, then would it not stand to reason that you should drink your beverage of choice while reviewing a cigar? If we want to get an opinion of a cigar for consideration of further purchase, should we drink nothing?
