Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros Sueno

Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros features three sizes, each packed in boxes containing 24 cigars. At 5 ¼” x 54, Sueño is a classic robusto that is available for a suggested retail price of $6.69 per cigar. The Liso is a 7” x 49 Churchill and carries an SRP of $6.99 per cigar. Marco, a figurado
rounds out the collection weighing in at 6 1/4” x 54 with an SRP of $7.29 per cigar.

After being handcrafted by a handpicked team of artisans at the General Cigar factory, each Reposado en Cedros cigar undergoes Inmersión, an innovative method of aging created at General Cigar’s Honduran cigar factory. With this technique, each cigar is enveloped in fragrant cedar and left to rest for an extended period of time. This week’s featured Reposado en Cedros is the 5.25-inch by 54 ring gauge Sueño Robusto.

Episode 324 La Palina Goldie

Play

DESCRIPTION: The La Palina Goldie is produced at the El Titan de Bronze factory in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. It is made under the supervision of factory-owner Sandy Cobas. The Goldie is a three-country blend that starts with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, which are wrapped a binder from Ecuador and finished with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.

La Palina Goldie

The cigars are rolled by master roller Maria Sierra. Maria was one of the first women trained to roll cigars in Cuba. Her historic 32-year career at Villa El Laguito began July 22, 1967. Maria is a 95 rated, category 9 roller trained by Fidel Castro’s personal roller Eduardo Rivera Irizarri, as well as by Avelino Lara, the creator of the legendary Cohiba blend.

Each cigar is finished in the traditional Laguito style with a fan cap, exclusively taught to rollers at Villa El Laguito in Cuba. The Goldie is blended with the prized Medio Tiempo leaf, found on only 10% of tobacco plants. The Goldie is a limited release of just 1000 boxes of 10 with each one being numbered and signed by the roller.

The La Palina Collection Goldie comes in just one size, the 6-inch by 30 ring gauge Laguito No. 2.

FEATURED LIBATION: Bulleit Rye Whiskey
Founded in 1987 and first released in 1999, Bulleit Bourbon is the go-to bourbon for many fans who enjoy its signature spicy profile, derived from a distinctive grain mixture that includes a rye content of 28%, which is among the highest of any bourbon on the market.

Tom Bulleit based his modern bourbon on the 150 year old recipe developed by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit.

A Bulleit rye whiskey was a logical step for the company, considering their bourbon’s high rye content. Noting industry and consumer demand for rye whiskey, Tom Bulleit decided the time was right to launch his company’s second release. Bulleit Rye Whiskey made its national debut in March of 2011.

The Bulleit Rye Whiskey weighs in at 90-proof (45% ABV) and has a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, a mix well above the requirement of 51% rye for rye whiskey.

Episode 323 La Gloria Cubana Rabito de Cochino

Play

DESCRIPTION: Rabito de Cochino is a medium-bodied offering, made in the Dominican Republic, that features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and a hearty mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos to round out the blend, bringing a new dimension to the classic taste of La Gloria Cubana.

La Gloria Cubana Rabito de Cochino

Within the clear-front, coffin-style boxes are three Rabito de Cochino cigars, tied together with the signature La Gloria Cubana yellow ribbon. Each cigar, besides having a pig-tail head, also sports an uncut foot.

Along with the interesting production and packaging characteristics, Rabito de Cochino is also a bargain, selling for $15 per box of three, or only $5 per stick. This week’s featured stogie is a 6 ½” x 46 ring gauge Lancero.

FEATURED LIBATION: Tomintoul (Tom-in-t’ owl) Single Malt Scotch
Tomintoul single malt whisky is a testament to master distiller, Robert Fleming, whose family has been making whisky in the Speyside Glenlivet region for four generations. Each of the single malts that he creates is smooth and mellow, which has led to the nickname for Tomintoul scotches, and that is, “the gentle dram.”

Currently, the Tomintoul portfolio consists of 9 different expressions of scotch. The one I’m featuring is called the Tomintoul Peaty Tang. “Peaty Tang”, is distilled in the traditional manner but, unusually for the Speyside Glenlivet region, it is crafted using peated malted barley to impart a distinctive smoky and heathery flavor.
