FEATURED LIBATION: Ron Zacapa Centenario 23
Zacapa is produced in Guatemala. They grow the sugar cane in Guatemala, which is ideally suited for sugar cane production. For aging, Zacapa uses a unique method called: Sistema Solera, which was first developed more than 500 years ago in Spain for the aging of sherries. The rum is laid to rest in selected barrels that have previously aged American whiskeys, Spanish sherries and Pedro Ximenez wines. And, in the case of XO, the final stage of aging occurs in French oak cognac barrels.

Ron Zacapa 23 is not all 23-year aged rum. It is a blend of rums with the oldest rums being 23 years, but the rums can be between 6 years and 23 years. The master blender chooses a ratio based on trying to match the consistency of the rum from year to year.

Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon bottle stoppers

FEATURED LIBATION: Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon has been enjoyed for centuries, but single barrel bourbon only dates back to 1984, when the owners of Ancient Age Distillery (now called Buffalo Trace Distillery) set out to create a premium quality product. In the process, they revolutionized the industry. In 1984, Blanton’s became the first American entry into the ultra-premium whiskey market. Today, most distilleries offer one or more single barrel bottlings, but Blanton’s was the first.

Episode 353 Davidoff Puro d’Oro Gorditos

Play

BACKGROUND: The Puro d’Oro features carefully chosen single-origin tobaccos and showcases Davidoff’s exclusive wrapper. The wrapper is grown in Yamasá, which is located in the Monte Plata region in the central part of the Dominican Republic. This area is known primarily as a rural agriculture community, where they grow sugar cane, plantains and mangoes, but has not been known for growing cigar tobacco. However, the unique climate and soil conditions give the wrapper on the Puro d’Oro a flavor and aroma not normally found in cigars made by Davidoff.

Puro d’Oro Gorditos by Davidoff

As with all Davidoff Puro d’Oro cigars, the Gorditos are made with 100% Dominican tobacco. The tobacco leaves are carefully selected before being aged for at least five years.

The Gorditos are short and thick, with a ring gauge of 58 and a length of just 3 3/4″. The golden bands on the head and foot of the cigar are the special trademark of this exceptional series.

FEATURED LIBATION: Booker’s Bourbon
Our featured bourbon is Booker’s Bourbon, which was first introduced in 1992, as the signature bourbon of Booker Noe. Booker is a legend in the industry. He joined the family business in 1950, learning from his uncle T Jeramiah Beam, who was James B Beam’s son. Ten years later he became master distiller. Booker introduced small batch bourbon to the public, revolutionizing the bourbon industry. The first landmark small batch bourbon was appropriately named Booker’s® Bourbon, as it was handpicked by Booker himself.

Booker’s is one of the only uncut, unfiltered, straight-from-the-barrel, bourbons available today. It’s bottled at its natural proof of between 121 and 127, and aged between six and eight years.
