Episode 369 Anacaona Perfecto

Play

BACKGROUND: The Anacaona premium line was named after, and inspired by, a woman of the same name, who was a chief of the Taíno Indians on the island of Hispaniola, which is now the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Not only was she in charge of her tribe, she was well respected by her people and was also revered as a brave warrior and leader.

The Anacaona cigar blend includes a special mix of Cuban seed tobacco grown, processed and aged by Sergio Cuevas in the Taíno  homeland of the Dominican Republic. This blend is then wrapped in a flawless Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. This week’s featured Anacaona is the 5-inch by 51 ring gauge Perfecto.

FEATURED LIBATION: Firestone Walker Union Jack (IPA)
The Union Jack, is a beer first released in 2008, 12 years after the brewery was founded in Paso Robles, California. It is also a beer that I have featured on this show before, 2 years and over 80 episodes ago. But I had to revisit it because I suspect that this beer is going to match very well with this week’s featured cigar.

Play

BACKGROUND: The La Gloria Cubana Gilded Age brand pays homage to the classic era in American history when wealth and affluence were often celebrated by cigar smoking, and when enjoying a cigar was a status symbol defining success.

The packaging is designed to emulate the Art Deco style that was popular in the day and to exhibit the feeling of class and luxury that goes along with the branding concept.

The blend for the Gilded Age features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that encases a Honduran binder and a blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler. The result is a cigar designed for the experienced cigar enthusiast.

The brand is offered in boxes of 18 cigars, and is available in four sizes. Box prices for the Gilded Age range from $74–$91.

This week’s featured cigar is the 7-inch by 52 ring gauge Churchill.

Episode 367 Leccia White Label

Play

BACKGROUND: After an absence of more than two years from the premium cigar industry, Sam Leccia is back with two new blends, Black and White, which will consist of two different cigar blends.

Leccia White Label Robusto

Leccia White Label Robusto

The Black blend is being manufactured in the Dominican Republic and uses a Habano wrapper with a Nicaraguan Rosado binder. The filler tobaccos are Nicaraguan and Dominican ligeros, with a Brazilian viso, and a leaf of wood fire-cured tobacco.

The line that I’m featuring today is the Leccia White label, which is built around a filler blend of Nicaraguan ligero and some seco leaves from Pennsylvania, which is Sam’s home state. The wrapper is an African Sun Grown with a binder from Ecuador. The cigar is being made in a small factory in Nicaragua.

Both versions are available in four sizes with prices ranging between $7.00-$9.00 per cigar. This week’s featured stogie is the 5-inch by 52 ring gauge Leccia White Robusto.

FEATURED LIBATION: The Dalmore 15-year Scotch
The 15 year scotch spends its first 12 years maturing in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, then the final 3 years are spent in three different sherry woods – Amoroso, Apostoles and Matusalem Oloroso.
