Episode 402 The Judge by J Fuego Cigars

Play

BACKGROUND: The Judge cigars are made in Honduras using a Brazilian Mata Fina Maduro wrapper and a 4-country filler blend. This blend was crafted buy Jesus Fuego and was designed to be a full-bodied blend appealing to smokers who enjoy the current trend of strong, rich cigars with a complex flavor profile.

The-Judge

The Judge by J. Fuego cigars comes in boxes of 20, and is available in 5 different sizes. MSRPs range from $4.75 to $7.00 per stick, and with Famous Smoke Shop’s box-discount pricing, the per-cigar price can be as low as $3.35. This week’s featured cigar is the 5-inch by 50 ring gauge, Blind Justice, Robusto.

Tapit-Stout

The Judge by J Fuego Cigars is a brand of cigars made in collaboration with Famous Smoke Shop. The Judge cigars are an exclusive offering of Famous Smoke and can be purchased online at Famous-Smoke.com.

FEATURED LIBATION: Full Blown Stout by Tap It Brewing Company
Tap It Brewing’s Full Blown Stout is an Oatmeal style stout. I paired it up with The Judge by J. Fuego because it is a medium stout and yet has what I believe will be a complimentary flavor profile with the cigar. Some of my very favorite craft beers tend to be a bit too overwhelming for many cigars and that’s why I gravitate to medium-bodied beers with hops that are not over the top.

FEATURED LIBATION: Guatemala Acatenango – Finca San Diego Buena Vista and Guatemala Huehuetenango Finca Regalito
Guatemala is the 7th leading coffee-producing country of the world. Guatemalan Coffee has been divided geographically into 8 major coffee growing regions that produce unique flavor profiles. Probably the best know and most prestigious of those regions is Antigua, however there is great coffee that comes out of all the regions. Today, I am blending two of those regions together. Twenty-five percent of my blend for today’s coffee will come from Acatenango and 75% will come from Huehuetenango.

SPECIAL QUESTION: From Ian at Scorpion Cigar Reviews
Question: Does it matter that a drink alters your perception of cigar flavor? If you drink and smoke together as a normal routine, then would it not stand to reason that you should drink your beverage of choice while reviewing a cigar? If we want to get an opinion of a cigar for consideration of further purchase, should we drink nothing?

Christina Fontecchio of the Boss Cigars talks with Angel, who asks several questions about various topics.

Episode 399 Fratello Corona Gorda

Play

BACKGROUND: A couple of years ago, Omar de Frias decided he would make his own cigar and that it would be called Fratello. Fratello means brother, in Italian, which was a nickname Omar earned while in college. He spent two years developing his Fratello brand. He poured his heart into searching for the right people to make his cigars and he wanted everything to be perfect, from the blend to the unique angled band.

Fratello Corona Gorda

After doing a soft launch of his cigars at the Annual Trade show in July, he lined up 35 stores that wanted to sell his product. Fratello cigars were officially launched in September at a special launch party at W. Curtis Draper’s in Washington, D.C.

Omar de Frias has come full circle from inspiration to implementation of Fratello Cigars. This week’s featured cigar is the 5.5-inch by 46 ring gauge Corona Gorda.

jeffersons-oceanFEATURED LIBATION: Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon
Inspired by the original Jefferson’s Ocean, which took new-filled bourbon barrels, and aged them completely at sea, the less expensive version of Jefferson’s Ocean takes older bourbon barrels and brings them around the world. The resulting bourbon has been dubbed Jefferson’s Ocean II, and that is what’s on shelves now. And it is a far cry from that original batch because it sells for $62/ 750ml bottle, rather than $220.
