Episode 446: La Aurora 100 Años Burns Tobacconist Edition

BACKGROUND: Burns Tobacconist owner, Mike Hunter, spoke with Nestor Miranda and Jason Wood about creating a new cigar exclusively for Burns. He told them he loved the Cien Años blend from La Aurora and that he would love to work on a special size as a store exclusive.

A few weeks later Jason went to the La Aurora factory and talked to factory manager Manuel Inoa about it. Manuel liked the idea of something new, but wanted to make it even more unique and rare. After getting a blessing from La Aurora owner, Guillermo Leon, he began work on a version of the Cien Años using a completely different wrapper leaf. Manuel used a Cameroon leaf, which has always been a favorite of La Aurora. Everybody loved the blend and in short order, the La Aurora 100 Años Burns Edition Cameroon was born.

Like the original Cien Años release, this cigar uses a Dominican filler and binder blend, but adds a spicy Cameroon wrapper leaf. The cigars are sold in boxes of 25 sticks and they are available for $11.99 each in the store. This week’s featured 100 Años Burns Edition cigar is the 7″ x 40 ring gauge Lancero.

Episode 445: Nat Cicco HHB Gold

BACKGROUND: Appearing in 2012, Nat Cicco’s Aniversario 1965 named the HHB Habano celebrated the creation date of the Rejects. The HHB Habano featured connoisseur touches such as extra aging, a pigtail cap, a wrapper-enclosed foot and high-quality Spanish cedar box.

Most recently in 2015, Zander-Greg introduced the HHB Gold to not only replace the HHB Habano, but also to honor the 50th anniversary of the Nat Cicco line of cigars. HHB Gold’s blend starts with an Ecuadorian-grown Habano leaf that surrounds a Nicaraguan filler and binder. The cigars come in three sizes and are presented 10 cigars per box. The cigar I’m featuring today is the 5.25-inch by 56 ring gauge HHB Gold Robusto Grande.

Episode 444: Tatuaje Avion Fausto Special Selection 12’s

BACKGROUND: Avion “Fausto” Special Selection cigars are a size extension of the Tatuaje Fausto line. This special cigar collection was released as a new size every year from 2011 to 2013 and each will remain as full production lines into the future.

The Avion Fausto gets it strength and flavor profile from an Ecuadorian Habano Maduro wrapper, which covers a strong blend of tobaccos from Nicaragua, comprised mainly of ligero from the Jalapa Valley and Estelí. The Fausto cigar line is purported to be full in strength, but with loads of flavor.

The cigars are packaged in boxes of 20 cigars. This cigar carries great potential as a “go-to” cigar for all those who love a bigger smoke and is a must try for fans of Tatuaje and Pete Johnson.

FEATURED LIBATION: 2012 Roxo Red Table Wine
The 2012 Roxo Red is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and a 20% Field blend consisting of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. This is Roxo’s interpretation of a classic Bordeaux blend. The wine weighs in at: 14.8%ABV, and comes in 750ml bottles at a price of $35/bottle. Just 168 cases were produced.
