BACKGROUND: Matt Booth had both the historical figure and the doll in mind when he added a pictograph of Daruma (Buddhist Monk, Bodhidharma) to the cigar box of his cigar line of the same name. He had this to say about the Daruma: “We have named this series after the Daruma as he symbolizes resilience – a key ingredient to our success.
The Room 101 Daruma was released in the summer of 2012 and became the seventh blend produced under the Room 101 cigar brand. The name Daruma continues the theme of Japanese culture that was started with the Room 101 Namakubi. Matt Booth’s stylish, unique, artistic designs are influenced by traditional Japanese culture and American tattoo design.
Made in Honduras, Daruma contains Dominican and Honduran long-fillers that are encased beneath a Brazilian Mata Fina binder and then finished with a smooth Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
The Daruma comes in 5 sizes and the cigar I’m featuring today is the 7-inch by 38 ring gauge Mutante.
