Episode 334 Avo 25th Anniversary Edition

DESCRIPTION: The year 2012 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Avo cigar brand created by cigar icon Avo Uvezian, who began composing cigars in 1987. To celebrate the 25 years in the business, Avo has decided to share with the consumer public his two greatest passions, the piano and the cigar. It is this passion for music and cigars that has presented Avo with such happiness throughout the last quarter century.

The cigars come packed in a stunning black lacquered, wooden ‘piano’ box, containing a short-term humidification system and a small compartment for accessory storage.

The cigar starts with a beefy filler blend that includes, Piloto Cubano and San Vicente Ligero, and Piloto Cubano and Olor Viso, all grown in the Dominican Republic. This mix is wrapped in a Piloto Cubano binder and the cigar is crowned with a silky Criollo, Sun-Grown (D.R.) wrapper. Consisting entirely of Dominican tobaccos, this cigar is a true Dominican “Puro.”

The Avo 25th Anniversary Edition is produced in extremely limited quantities, only 2,000 individually numbered boxes containing 25 cigars are available in the United States. The suggested retail price is set at $16.00 per cigar or $400.00 per box. This week’s featured cigar is the 6” x 52 ring gauge Avo 25th Anniversary Toro.

DOC’S CIGAR POSTSCRIPT: Urbano Corojo Torpedo
BACKGROUND: I first featured the Urbano Corojo Torpedo in Episode 271 of the Stogie Fresh 5 podcast back on Sunday, May 15, 2011. These cigars have now been aging in my Aristocrat Mini Cabinet humidor for 1 year, 7.9 months and I pulled out my last two samples for this review.
