Episode 336 Lou Rodriguez Edición Reserva Bom Bom

DESCRIPTION: On his last visit to my home, Lou Rodriguez told me that he decided on the blend for the Edición Reserva over the phone with Gregorio Vasquez. While at home in the states and with Vasquez in Nicaragua, Lou told Vasquez he would like to have the same great blend found in the Edición Premier, but with more horsepower. So, they decided to bump up the filler blend with more ligero to see what that produced and they were delighted with the results.

Lou Rodriguez Edicion Reserva Bom Bom

The blend consists of Nicaraguan filler and binder and a sweet Mexican Maduro from the San Andres Valley as the wrapper. Besides the tweaking of the blend, the cigar is distinguished from its Edición Premier brother by a green foot band, which says Edición Reserva.

This week’s featured Reserva is the 4.75-inch by 42 ring gauge Bom Bom.

FEATURED LIBATION: Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Brewed in the authentic historical style of an Imperial Russian Stout, which means a rich, deep, complex beer with full-bodied flavor. This high, malty alcohol content and high hop rate were intended to preserve the beer and also prevent it from freezing during its shipboard trip across the Baltic Sea.

Lou Rodriguez Edicion Reserva Bom Bom

According to the Stone website, they have brewed their version of this beer to “pour like Siberian crude and taste even heavier!” Stone first released the Imperial Russian Stout in July of 2000. 2012 makes the 12th release of this special beer, which was released on April 16th, of this year.

A couple more facts about this beer: First, it uses a HOP VARIETY known as Warrior. It weighs in at 10.5% ABV and tips the IBU scale at 65. It is available in 22oz Bottles & on Draft.

DOC’S CIGAR POSTSCRIPT: Winston Churchill Lancaster
I first featured the Winston Churchill Lancaster in Episode 274 back on Sunday, June 5, 2011. These cigars have been resting in their original tin inside by Aristocrat M+ cabinet humidor for 1 year, 6 months and 17 days, and I pulled out my last two samples for this postscript review.
