BACKGROUND: Asylum Cigars is one of four companies that are under the umbrella of Christian Eiroa’s Fabricas Unidas, a company that seeks out and supports people with a special talent and ambition to create great products.
The Asylum Premium was the inaugural cigar for Asylum Cigars. It is a Nicaraguan puro that was first released in mid-2012 and, according to company co-founder Tom Lazuka, is the product of the very finest available Nicaraguan tobacco reserves.
Today’s featured stogie is the Asylum Premium, 6-inch by 50 ring gauge Toro.
FEATURED LIBATION: Courvoisier XO Imperial Cognac
Courvoisier was launched in 1809: the same year that France’s first Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, took the Imperial throne. It was at that time that Emmanuel Courvoisier, the founder, along with Louis Gallois, the mayor of Bercy, decided to open a wine and spirit company on the outskirts of Paris, just north of the river Seine.
All Courvoisier cognacs are made exclusively with Ugni Blanc grapes from the Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois regions. Ugni Blanc is the most prized grape due to its high acidity and low alcoholic strength – perfect for creating the rich but delicate flavors of the cognac.

This review is on the Bellaterra Black and Tan Double Robusto. I first featured this cigar in Episode 321 of the Stogie Fresh 5 podcast back on Saturday, June 23, 2012. This is the second and final postcript review of these cigars, which have been resting in my humidor for 1 year, 2 months and 7 days prior to this review.
