Episode 390 Wilson Adams Sumatra

BACKGROUND: Formed in February of 2012, Wilson Adams Cigars is a partnership between Brandon Wilson and Stephen Miller of California who are longtime friends and partners in this venture. Their inaugural cigar, the Wilson Adams Habano, was made at the Nestor Placensia factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. It took 8 months and 30-40 different blends before they came up with the one that the company was ready to release.

Their second cigar, the Sumatra, was also a trial and error procedure. However, they learned something from their prior process and the development of the cigar blend was more efficient the second time around. The blend for the Sumatra includes an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a US/Pennsylvania Broadleaf binder and a predominantly Nicaraguan filler.

This week’s featured cigars is the 5-inch by 50 ring gauge No. 2 Robusto.

FEATURED LIBATION: Laphroaig Original Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch
The Original Cask Strength Laphroaig served as my introduction to a peaty scotch. As most scotch drinkers know, Laphroaig is a peat-monster. This scotch was the one that put peat on the map for me and I haven’t been the same since. Also, it is bottled at natural distillery strength. In other words, it goes into the bottle at 111 proof, or 55.7% alcohol by volume.
