BACKGROUND: A couple of years ago, Omar de Frias decided he would make his own cigar and that it would be called Fratello. Fratello means brother, in Italian, which was a nickname Omar earned while in college. He spent two years developing his Fratello brand. He poured his heart into searching for the right people to make his cigars and he wanted everything to be perfect, from the blend to the unique angled band.
After doing a soft launch of his cigars at the Annual Trade show in July, he lined up 35 stores that wanted to sell his product. Fratello cigars were officially launched in September at a special launch party at W. Curtis Draper’s in Washington, D.C.
Omar de Frias has come full circle from inspiration to implementation of Fratello Cigars. This week’s featured cigar is the 5.5-inch by 46 ring gauge Corona Gorda.
FEATURED LIBATION: Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon
Inspired by the original Jefferson’s Ocean, which took new-filled bourbon barrels, and aged them completely at sea, the less expensive version of Jefferson’s Ocean takes older bourbon barrels and brings them around the world. The resulting bourbon has been dubbed Jefferson’s Ocean II, and that is what’s on shelves now. And it is a far cry from that original batch because it sells for $62/ 750ml bottle, rather than $220.
