Episode 448: BG Meyer Gigantes Robusto

BACKGROUND: The new BG Meyer Gigantes, which from Spanish translates as “Giants,” pays tribute to those trail blazers or towering spirits who lead by example and influence the lives of many. The concept for the cigar comes as a play on the legendary Gigante format, which is traditionally a 6” x 54 ring size cigar known for robust flavors.

The Gigantes feature a Nicaraguan-grown Habano wrapper, A Brazilian Mata Fina binder and high-grade filler tobaccos from both Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The binder and filler tobaccos in the Gigantes blend have been aged a minimum of six years, while the wrapper has been at rest since 2007.

All BG Meyer cigars are hand made in Danli, Honduras. The Gigantes come in 20ct boxes that have been draped with black Oak veneer. This new line began shipping on Wednesday, April 15th and retails from $10.00 – $13.00 per stick.

BG Meyer Gigantes comes in four sizes and the size I’m featuring today is the 5” by 54 ring gauge Robusto.

Episode 417 BG Meyer Standard Issue Robusto

BACKGROUND: It was back in June of 2013 that Camacho announced their major rebranding effort, which they dubbed: the “Bold Standard.” Basically this effort involved a rework of the entire core Camacho lineup from its packaging down to tweaking the blends. It was at this time, too, that Camacho introduced the “Board of the Bold,” which included the big three brand ambassadors, Matt Booth, Mike Ditka, and now, Rob Weiss.

Rob Weiss is a producer, best known for his work on HBO’s hit show Entourage, which may be soon released as a major motion picture. “The journey to find success in the entertainment industry is marked by many failures and fewer successes,” said Weiss. He goes on to say, “It’s important to find happiness in the process. The same can be said for the cigar business. I have enjoyed the process of making these [cigars], almost as much as I have enjoyed smoking them. In the creation of cigars and stories there are similarities. You want your audience to feel fulfilled and fall in love. Whether it’s with a character who will influence their life, or a cigar that will accompany it.”

FEATURED LIBATION: Michter’s Straight Rye
Originally known as Shenk’s and later as Bomberger’s, the whiskey company that ultimately became known as Michter’s was founded by John Shenk, a Swiss Mennonite farmer, in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania in 1753. In its earliest days, Shenk’s produced whiskey from rye grain, a favorite local crop in the Pennsylvania Blue Mountain Valley where the distillery was located.
