Episode 372 Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro

BACKGROUND: The new Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro is a one-size release and is box-pressed in shape. Made from a blend of Nicaraguan Habano grown in the Jalapa region of the country and wrapped in a Mexican maduro grown in the San Andrés Valley, the cigar comes packaged in boxes of 10.

According to Director of Operations, Dave Wagner, the 2013 release will be confined to 10,000 boxes for a total run of 100,000 cigars. Wagner said he expects Oliva to make it an annual release. Like all of Oliva Cigar Co.’s cigars, these are being produced in Nicaragua.

With a suggested retail price around $13 this week’s featured cigar is the 6 1/2 inch by 52 ring gauge torpedo.

FEATURED LIBATION: Aperol on the rocks
Aperol is an Italian aperitif whose ingredients include, bitter orange, gentian root, rhubarb, and cinchona. It is the lighter cousin of Campari except that, with low alcohol content, it is perfect for all-day sipping and it is the perfect summer refresher. The alcohol content is just 11% ABV, and because of this and it’s flavor profile, I think Aperol will be the perfect accompaniment to a cigar on a nice summer day.

DOC’S CIGAR POSTSCRIPT: La Gloria Cubana Rabito de Cochino
This review is on the Avo 2012 Limited Edition La Trompeta. I first featured this cigar in Episode 322 of the Stogie Fresh 5 podcast back on Saturday, June 30, 2012. These cigars have been resting in my humidor for 1 year, 4 months and 22 days and I pulled out a couple more samples this past week for this postscript review.
